Swimmers are being advised not to enter the water until bacteria levels are within state standards.
CBS
Mother's Beach and Marine Stadium closed because of a 5,400-gallon sewage spill in Long Beach.
City water department workers were clearing roots in a pressurized sewage pipe at the north end of Marine Stadium when the spill occurred Wednesday at 10:48 a.m.
Health officials issued beach closure advisories for the two locations.
The spill was contained, and the area around it sanitized, but the beach and Marine Stadium will remain closed until bacteria counts return to normal levels.
More information on the closures is available by calling the Water Quality Information Line at (562) 570-4199 or online at
