Missing WWII Veteran Found Safe In Cabazon

FULLERTON, Calif. (CBS) ― A 92-year-old man, who vanished Tuesday, was found safe in Cabazon early Wednesday morning.

Charles Rupert Mercer was last seen at about 2:45 p.m leaving the Morningside Retirement Community in Fullerton.

The World War II veteran was on his way to pick up a cousin in Whittier, but never arrived at the destination, according to a Fullerton Police news release.

Mercer was found in good condition at about 1 a.m. Wednesday after someone recognized him and called police.

Mercer was a little disoriented, but was now back home at his retirement community in Fullerton, police said.
