2 Women Escape Car Before Metrolink Hits It
RIVERSIDE (AP) ―
Two women abandoned their car just before it was struck by a Metrolink train in Riverside and escaped unharmed, it was reported today.
A 21-year-old woman turned her white Honda sedan onto the tracks near Jurupa Avenue about 7:41 p.m. Monday, mistaking it for a street, the Press- Enterprise reported, quoting police.
The driver and her 19-year-old passenger escaped from the vehicle before the Metrolink train crashed into the car, the newspaper reported.
The women and the 40 passengers aboard the train were not injured. No charges were pending against the women, police said.
Metrolink passengers had to remain inside the train until it was started again at 9:30 p.m., Metrolink spokesman Francisco Oaxaca told the Press- Enterprise.
Train No. 412 had departed from Union Station in Los Angeles at 6:35 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive at the downtown Metrolink stop in Riverside at 8:02 p.m., Oaxaca said.
