'Bus Bridge' Offered To Ventura County Commuters

LOS ANGELES In the wake of the deadly Metrolink train crash and derailment, Metro says they will use a "bus bridge" around the crash scene starting Monday. Amtrak, however, will not offer an alternate service for the six cancelled daily roundtrips between Los Angeles and the Central California coast.

Buses will leave the Moorpark Metrolink station at the same times that trains are scheduled to depart for Los Angeles, Metro spokesman Jose Ubaldo said. The first departures will begin at 5:08 a.m.

Buses will stop at the Metrolink station in Simi Valley, then deliver passengers to the Metrolink station at Chatsworth, where passengers can transfer to Metrolink trains headed across the San Fernando Valley to Burbank, Glendale and Union Station in Los Angeles.

Regular Metrolink service will be offered Monday on all lines except the Ventura line, northwest of Chatsworth. The last train towards Moorpark will depart Chatsworth at 7:44 p.m.

Amtrak officials say all its train service, and connecting bus service, between San Luis Obispo and Los Angeles will be cancelled until train service can resume. The daily Coast Daylight roundtrip from Seattle to Los Angeles will terminate at Santa Barbara until further notice.

Amtrak also operates five daily Pacific Surfliner trips between Goleta and San Diego on the route, and the federal service says no alternate bus service is being provided.
