Trendy Melrose Ave. is known for a lot of things, but murder isn't one of them.
A man was fatally shot in eastern Hollywood Friday night in a gritty section of the trendy street that isn't particulary trendy, between Western and the Hollywood (101) Freeway.
Police say Oscar Antonio Escobar, 21, of Hollywood was shot about 11:20 p.m. by one, or possibly two, assailants. Escobar had just brought his children some food and was walking home.
The shooting occurred in the area of Melrose Avenue and Hobart Boulevard, said Los Angeles police spokesperson Kate Lopez.
Escobar was taken to County-USC Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Witnesses said the shooters were two gang members in their 20s who fled in a 1990s black Honda.
Escobar was employed, married and had three children. He had no known gang connections and a motive for the shooting is unknown, police said.
Anyone with information about the shooting can contact Hollywood homicide detectives Rolando Rodriguez or Larry Cameron at (213) 972-2910/2913 or (877) LAWFULL.
