A marijuana-growing operation was discovered during a warehouse fire in the Vermont Knolls area.

Los Angeles City firefighters discovered a marijuana-growing operation while battling a warehouse fire in the Vermont Knolls area, authorities said Friday.
The fire at a two-story commercial building at 7612 S. Vermont Ave. was reported around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, and 25 firefighters doused the blaze in less than 20 minutes, a Los Angeles City Fire Department captain said.
Crews discovered a marijuana-growing operation while battling flames on the second floor, the battalion chief said.
A further search of the building resulted in the discovery of at least 50 full-grown marijuana plants, some 50 plants in the nursery stage, and several pounds of dried product ready to ship, Lt. Lee Sands of the Los Angeles Police Department's 77th Street Station said.
Firefighters also discovered a 9-millimeter handgun.warehouse fire in the Vermont Knolls area, authorities said Friday.
