A Trabuco Canyon man who was released on bail after allegedly raping his ex-girlfriend was charged Tuesday with attempted murder and other charges for allegedly seriously injuring the same woman after he was released from jail.
Mark Alan Jarosik, 43, was in a Newport Beach courtroom Tuesday on the new charges, but arraignment was postponed until July 1.
In addition to attempted murder with premeditation and deliberation, Jarosik faces one felony count each of residential burglary, corporal injury of a former cohabitant and dissuading a witness, according to Farrah Emami of the Orange County District Attorney's Office.
Prosecutors also filed two misdemeanor counts of violating a protective order and sentencing-enhancing allegations of great bodily injury inflict during domestic violence and committing a new crime while out on bail for a previous crime, Emami said.
Jarosik was previously charged with forcible rape and attempted sodomy by force stemming from an alleged attack on the 41-year-old woman at her Ladera Ranch home on May 15, Emami said.
The couple's live-in relationship ended about a month before the initial alleged attack, Emami said.
Jarosik came over to use the woman's computer, with her permission, and she went out to dinner with friends.
The two got into an argument when she returned at 9 p.m. -- she thought she had seen him drive past the restaurant where she dined to spy on her -- and it turned physical, leading to the allegations of forcible rape and attempted sodomy, Emami said.
The woman told a friend about the alleged attack the next day, and it was reported to the sheriff's department.
Jarosik was arrested, charged on May 18, and appeared in court the following day, where a judge issued a protective order requiring him to stay at least 200 yards from the woman.
Last Friday, Jarosik pleaded not guilty to the rape charges. He posted $100,000 bail about 11 p.m. Saturday night, Emami said.
Jarosik is accused of trying to break into the woman's home Sunday morning by putting his hand through a window near the front door of the house. Her two children saw a hand come through and yelled, and the intruder fled.
About 8 a.m. Monday, Jarosik allegedly violated the protective order and attacked the woman. He is accused of pushing her to the ground, punching her in the face, and banging her head against the curb in front of her home, Emami said.
Witnesses pulled Jarosik from the victim, called 911 and held him until deputies arrived, Emami said.
The woman, who was attacked while going to her mailbox, suffered a concussion and lacerations to the head and remains hospitalized in serious condition, Emami said.
Jarosik, who is being held without bail, faces up to 29 years to life in prison if convicted of all counts.
