Residents Sleep Well After Yap-Happy Puppy Removed

REDONDO BEACH, Calif. (AP) ― Residents in a Redondo Beach condo complex say they've been enjoying some unaccustomed quiet since filing a lawsuit that evicted a neighbor's yap-happy Maltese puppy.

Court officials say the dog's owner Eileen Acheson removed Rover from the 98-unit Sand Castle. That saved her from having to pay a nearly $100,000 judgment against her from a suit filed by 14 neighbors.

Next-door neighbor Chris Keenan says he's relieved to be rid of the barking that was keeping him up at night.

But Rover may return. Acheson maintains that Rover is her "emotional support companion" and that she needs it around for medical reasons.

Now the Department of Fair Employment and Housing is investigating whether the condo's homeowners association broke the law by not allowing her to keep a companion animal.
