Malibu Mobile Home Park Sewage Fine Slashed
MALIBU, Calif. (AP) ―
A Malibu mobile home park that dumped 2,000 gallons of sewage into oceans and creeks may have to pay only a small fraction of a $1.65 million fine that was initially proposed.
The Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board says it can't enforce the original fine recommended this year against Paradise Cove because it hadn't given the park cease-and-desist or cleanup orders.
The board reduced the fine to $54,500 on Tuesday.
The decision can be appealed to the state water board.
A spokesman for the company that owns Paradise Cove declined to comment because the decision is under review.
Paradise Cove was the site of Jim Rockford's mobile home on TV's "The Rockford Files."
