A fire has destroyed a beachfront house in Malibu, damaged two others and shut down traffic in both directions on Pacific Coast Highway for hours.
Los Angeles County fire Inspector Darryl Jacobs says no one was hurt in the fire, which broke out in a three-story home about 3 a.m. Thursday. Flames quickly spread to the two houses next to it.
The three-story home was destroyed. Another home was severely damaged and the third suffered minor damage. Jacobs says six people were evacuated from the two damaged homes, but the destroyed home was vacant.
It took more than 45 firefighters nearly two hours to knock down the fire.
Pacific Coast Highway remains closed southbound at Flores Canyon Road and northbound at Topanga Canyon Boulevard.
Jacobs say he expects lanes will be reopened sometime after 7 a.m.
