A jewelry store owner was robbed Tuesday, but helped stop the bandits from getting away with valuables from the store, police said.
The man, whose name police withheld, told officers he was opening MacTavish Jewelers at 14310 Culver Drive when two gunmen in masks walked in shortly after 9:30 a.m., Irvine police Lt. Rick Handfield said.
The robbers ordered the owner to the floor and he screamed, at which time an employee ran out of the store to get help, Handfield said.
The pair then fled in a red or maroon minivan, possibly an older model Ford Aerostar, that had yellow paper plates on the front and the rear, he said.
Anyone with more information about the crime was asked to call detectives at (949) 724-7168.
