Apparently Michelle Delgadillo's driving record has opened the city attorney to massive scrutiny.
An editorial in The Los Angeles Times called for the resignation of City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo.
Delgadillo came to office with "sterling credentials" and the support of "esteemed leaders," an "Eastside kid who did well," attending Harvard and Columbia and working for a prestigious law firm, according to a Times editorial.
"In short, Delgadillo had the drive, the education and the support to be one of this city's leading public officials," the editorial said. "Instead, he has squandered those advantages on egocentrism and bad judgment, falling well short of the high standards required of an office that prosecutes others for offenses such as he has committed. He should resign."
The resignation call follows admissions by the city attorney that he allowed his wife to drive his city-owned sport utility vehicle, let the city foot the bill for repairs after she crashed the SUV and lacked car insurance for a time, as did his wife, Michelle.
He also has denied charges from his own staff that he intervened in a criminal prosecution to help take the heat off an influential grocery store owner.
"Delgadillo has insisted that he be held to a high standard. Applying that standard, we find him wanting, and respectfully suggest that he do the honorable thing and resign," the Times editorial said.
