Antonovich Wants Nursing Homes To Display Ratings

LOS ANGELES Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich wants nursing homes to publicly display their federal ratings.

Medical care, staffing levels, food services, sanitation, bedsore mitigation and the results of licensing inspections are taken into account in the ratings.

Antonovich said, "this vital information equips families to make informed decisions about the care for their loved ones. It also provides incentives for facilities to establish higher quality standards and compliance."

Antonovich also spearheaded the initiative to post health inspection grades in restaurants throughout Los Angeles County more than a decade go.

The Board of Supervisors allowed Antonovich to write to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and ask that he direct state health officials to require nursing homes to make public ratings, based on a five-star system, by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The CMS Nursing Home Compare Web site allows you to find out the rankings/ratings of homes you are considering.
