An amendment to the Long Beach anti-smoking laws now allows cigar smokers to fire up a stogie in cigar lounges.
The City Council voted 6-2 on Tuesday to modify the 15-year-old laws.
Anyone under 18 years old are prohibited from entering a cigar lounge. The law requires a separate ventilation and exhaust system.
In 1993, Long Beach was one of the first cities in California to impose a citywide smoking ban in public places and workplaces. A petition drive forced a ballot measure and it was overwhelmingly affirmed in 1994.
