Long Beach Airport Reopens After Bomb Scare
LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) ―
A "suspicious" package in a returned rental car shut down Long Beach Airport for several hours Monday, but police said the cylindrical object -- which had wires protruding from it -- was not a bomb.
The investigation prompted airport officials to close off the terminal, although people who had already passed through security were allowed to stay inside.
The terminal was re-opened two hours after the package was found.
The suspicious package was found in a car at the rental lot, located directly across from the terminal.
The suspicious item was described as a carrying case.
During the investigation, people outside the terminal and waiting to check in at ticket counters were taken to the entrance of the airport. All arriving cars were also held at the airport entrance.
Arriving flights were diverted and all departing flights were put on hold until the airport was determined to be safe.
