Deputies were looking Saturday for suspects in two different armed robberies on the outskirts of Riverside, according to sheriff's officials.
The robberies occurred more than three hours apart Friday afternoon and evening, the first in Glen Avon and the second about 15 miles east in north Riverside, according to sheriff's Sgt. Gene McKinney.
No one was reported injured in either event.
The first incident was about 4:40 p.m. in the 9000 block of Mission Boulevard just south of the 60 Freeway, when a man with a handgun threatened a clerk and demanded money from the register at the Vanity Fashions clothing store, according to McKinney.
The suspect got away with cash and was described as Hispanic, in his
early 20s, with short black hair, no facial hair, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, medium build, and wearing a black sweatshirt and dark pants.
The second incident was just after 8 p.m. in the 200 block of Iowa in the Highgrove area near Interstate 215 and the Riverside-San Bernardino county line, according to McKinney.
Two men in black ski masks and black clothing went into the Center Liquor store, one of the men brandished a handgun at the clerk, and they demanded money from the register, McKinney said. They left with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Both suspects were described as Hispanic, about 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds each.
Investigators don't have any indication the incidents were related, said sheriff's Deputy Craig Roberts.
McKinney encouraged anyone with information about either event to call
the Sheriff's Department at (951) 776-1099.
