Leopard sharks have been spotted in the waters off Marina del Rey, Manhattan Beach and other coastline areas, but a lifeguard captain said Thursday that they pose no danger to surfers or other beachgoers.
"It's that time of year," said Capt. Terry Harvey of the Los Angeles County Lifeguard Service, adding that the sharks are "a sign of a healthy ecosystem."
The warmer waters have attracted the docile sharks, which typically scatter away when anyone enters the water, said Harvey.
