An overnight water main break in Lancaster buckled pavement and created a sinkhole that swallowed a car, and repair efforts continue today.
The main break occurred about 10 p.m. Friday in the 44800 block of Beech
Avenue, near Lancaster Boulevard, a sheriff's watch commander at the
Lancaster station said.
A video crew at the scene said no one was injured as the car slowly sank.
The watch commander said the size of the hole grew overnight and estimated it at 4-5 feet deep. The line that broke was reportedly repaired just
1-1/2 years ago.
Los Angeles County public works crews closed the street to traffic.
