A 19-year-old woman who showed up at Antelope Valley Hospital today led doctors to send deputies to her home, where they found a newborn girl in a cabinet, a sheriff's detective said.
Alyna Gutierrez and the baby remained hospitalized, Detective Miguel Torres said, adding that she could be charged with child neglect pending the outcome of an investigation. Both appeared to be in good condition, he said.
Gutierrez came to the emergency room about 7 a.m., and doctors determined she had given birth, he said. Deputies sent to the woman's home in the 44100 of Soft Avenue found the child wrapped in a blanket inside a cabinet, he said.
Anyone with more information was asked to call Torres at (661) 948-8466.
