Truck Found In Amber Alert, Kids Still Missing

SUNLAND, Calif. (AP) ― Authorities say a man shot his estranged wife and snatched their two young sons Sunday morning in Sunland, fleeing with the children in a black pickup truck.

The empty truck was found late Sunday in Lancaster, Los Angeles police Officer Karen Smith said.

An Amber Alert has been issued for the two boys, 5-year-old Diego Fabian Ortega and 3-year-old Luis Gonzalo Ortega.

Police say their father, 26-year-old Jose Luis Ortega, shot their mother while they watched.

Her name has not been released. She was shot as many as 12 times and is in critical condition.

The gunman is considered armed and dangerous, and police say he is a 5-foot-6 Hispanic male with black hair and brown eyes.
