Firefighters Push Back La Tuna Canyon Brush Fire

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― A wildfire burned through nearly 15 acres Friday in the Verdugo Mountains in Los Angeles.

The fire erupted Friday evening shortly after a five-acre brush fire was contained to the east in Pasadena.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman d'Lisa Davies says the new fireĀ  in La Tuna Canyon Park was reported about 5:30 p.m.

The fire consumed thick brush on a steep hillside in La Tuna Canyon north of Burbank. By 9 p.m., fewer than 15 acres had burned but the fire was still burning.

Firefighters contained the fire by early Saturday morning and credited the weather when the blaze began to die down.

Davies says about 90 firefighters are battling the flames and fire officials have asked nearby agencies to assist with hand crews and water-dropping aircraft.

Some firefighters were exposed to poison oak while battling the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
