A man who allegedly stabbed his wife to death Monday in their Downey apartment was arrested after crashing on the 605 Freeway in Pico Rivera, authorities said.
The name of the 28-year-old woman, who was killed about 3:30 a.m. at 10429 La Reina Ave., was not released, according to Downey police Sgt. Jeff Calhoun.
Kris Young Lee, 35, was taken into custody after crashing a vehicle on the northbound 605 Freeway at the Rose Hills Road exit, Calhoun said.
"Lee told CHP officers he had an argument with his wife and stabbed her with a large kitchen knife," Calhoun said.
"Lee had sustained injuries during the altercation with his wife, and was transported to (County) USC Medical Center for treatment, where he was listed in good condition," the sergeant said. "It is anticipated that once Lee recovers from his injuries, investigators will seek charges against him for murder."
Officers had gone to the apartment complex on a report of a disturbance involving a man and woman, Calhoun said.
"It was also reported that a small child was seen leaving the apartment unattended," Calhoun said.
A 3-year-old boy believed to be the couple's son was found in a neighbor's apartment. The toddler had an apparent minor injury, but it's unclear if it was related to the stabbing or occurred previously, the sergeant said.
Officers found the woman lying on her bedroom floor. "She was covered in blood, suffering from multiple stab wounds," Calhoun said.
A Los Angeles County Department of Coroner's investigator said that normally the victim's name would be released after identifying next of kin, but in this case the next of kin was the suspect -- her husband.
"We are trying to contact another next of kin," the investigator said.
