A California black bear spotted in a La Crescenta backyard was cornered and eventually tranquilized and taken away on a stretcher.
The 150-pound bear was seen nosing around in the 2600 block of Prospect Avenue about 1:30 p.m. State Fish and Game officials tranquilized the animal by 4:30 p.m. and took it out of the brush on a stretcher to be released back into the wild.
A bear had been spotted in nearby Montrose just a day earlier, according to NewsCentral's Larry Welk. It's not known if it was the same bear.
Sheriff's Deputy Steven Toly said wildlife, including bears, are a common sight in the foothills neighborhood and that the bear was most likely looking for food.
Officials said the bear was suffered burns from the Station Fire and may have to be euthanized.
