The holiday season crowds at Los Angeles International Airport should be smaller this year as the number of passengers is expected to be 14 percent less than last year, airport officials said Friday.
Between today and Jan. 2, 2.35 million people are expected to travel
through LAX.
The decline, compared to the holidays last year, is the result of less demand for flights, according to Los Angeles World Airports, the city agency that oversees the airport.
At LA/Ontario International Airport, 225,000 people are expected to
travel during the holidays.
That is a 29 percent drop compared to last year, the result of ExpressJet and JetBlue's decisions to stop service at the airport.
The busiest travel days are expected to be today, Dec. 22, Dec. 26 and
Jan. 2.
Passengers flying out of LAX should arrive at the airport at least two
hours before their scheduled departure for domestic flights and three hours
early for international flights.
At Ontario, passengers should arrive at least 90 minutes before their flights.
Passengers should remember not to check in gift-wrapped presents or
carry-on bags.
Also, snow globes are classified as liquids and cannot be packed in carry-on bags, according to airport officials.
