LAUSD teachers plan to walk out on May 15, but the district's board will ask a judge to block the stoppage.

Los Angeles school officials say they will ask a judge to stop the teachers' union from holding a one-day work stoppage for May 15.
The school district board voted unanimously Tuesday to seek an injunction against the United Teachers Los Angeles for violating its contract. The union announced the work stoppage last week to protest layoff plans for thousands of teachers.
Superintendent Ramon Cortines says the work stoppage is illegal and not in the best interest of the students.
Officials plan to send non-school-based personnel to schools on May 15 to help administrators supervise the district's hundreds of thousands of students.
The teachers union says it may issue comment later Tuesday night.
