LAPD Officers Shoot, Kill Man Who Aimed Gun

LOS ANGELES LAPD officers shot and killed a man they say aimed a gun at them, according to authorities.

The incident occured early Saturday evening at 45th Street between Broadway and Main Street, said Los Angeles police Lt. Manny Santoyo of the Newton Street Station.

Two officers responding to a report of a man with a gun about 7:30 detained a suspect, Santoyo said.

With one suspect in custody, officers then saw another suspect who pointed a gun at them, he said.

At least one officer opened fire, fatally wounding the man, Santoyo said.

The mortally wounded man was declared dead at California Hospital Medical Center, he said.

The dead man's name was withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

Police recovered a handgun at the scene.

Several beer bottles were found in the area, he said, adding that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the incident.

The man who was initially detained was later released, Santoyo said.
