LAPD Officers In May Day Melee To Be Disciplined

Police Commission Frustrated With Pace Of Investigation

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― The LAPD's top internal affairs investigator told the Police Commission that disciplinary proceedings against officers involved in the May Day melee at MacArthur Park will start in 2008.

Commissioners expressed frustration over the pace of the investigation into the confrontation between officers and immigration protesters. Officers filed rubber bullets to disperse demonstrators.

Deputy Chief Mike Perez said officers who used force have been identified, but he didn't say how many are targeted for discipline.

More than 300 excessive force complaints were filed, including 27 from members of the news media.
