LAPD Fingerprint Expert Accused Of Sexual Assault
LOS ANGELES (AP) ―
A high-ranking fingerprint expert with the Los Angeles police has been charged with sexually assaulting one of his tenants in a South Los Angeles apartment.
Police said Friday that Miguel Martinez Rivera was arrested at the department's Scientific Investigations Division.
Capt. Bob Green says Rivera allegedly accosted the 26-year-old woman earlier this month. He was arrested Wednesday.
Rivera is charged with four felony counts, including assault with the intent to rape. If convicted, faces up to nine years in prison.
He has been released on $175,000 bail and placed on administrative leave. Attempts to reach him were unsuccessful.
The fingerprint unit came under scrutiny last fall after a department report detailed that at least two people were falsely arrested over the years due to faulty fingerprint analysis.
