A Los Angeles police officer shot a robbery suspect and wounded him Wednesday at an electronics store near the Metro Red Line Station at Vermont Avenue and Sunset Boulevard.
Officers were responding to a call of an armed robbery at the store at about 1 p.m. They chased the suspect on foot, but the suspect turned and stabbed one of the officers, prompting them to open fire, Los Angeles police Officer Marjan Mobasser said. The officer suffered a cut on the head.
The officer had been struck with the butt of a knife, Officer Jason Lee said. The officers had fired several rounds, and one shot struck an MTA bus on Vermont Avenue and shattered a window. An 80-year-old man on the bus was injured by the flying glass, but was treated at the scene and released.
The wounded suspect was taken to County-USC Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.
A 50-year-old woman on the bus was also taken to a hospital to be treated for anxiety.
A second suspect is being sought, a man described in his 20s to early 30s, 150 pounds, 5 feet 5 inches tall to 5 feet 7 inches tall, Lee said.
The robbers had stolen some cash and cell phones, Lee said.
