LA Impound Fee Ordinance Approved

LOS ANGELES The cost of getting an impounded car out of the Los Angeles Police Department's garage would more than double under an ordinance approved today by a Los Angeles City Council committee.

The fee would rise from $48 to $100 on Dec. 1. The higher fee was assumed in the city's $7.1 billion budget for 2008-09, along with higher fees for city parking lots, pet adoptions at city shelters and a round of golf at municipal courses.

The Public Safety Committee unanimously approved the ordinance, which
requires final approval from the full council.
