LA Deputy Gets Year In Prison For Groping Girl

FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) ― A Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy has been sentenced to a year in jail for groping a 15-year-old girl whose father was hospitalized.

Prosecutors say 45-year-old James Joseph Doyle, a courtroom bailiff from Long Beach, pleaded guilty Tuesday to a misdemeanor charge of lewd acts with a minor after a Fullerton Superior Court judge reduced the charge from a felony.

Doyle also has been sentenced to three years probation and will have to register as a sex offender.

Prosecutors say his victim was the 15-year-old daughter of his friend who was in the hospital.

The girl told her mother, but they did not report the incident to police until after the girl's father had died.

Doyle has been relieved from duty by the sheriff's department.
