Kids Get Toys At Skid Row Giveaway

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Shelter workers and volunteers are handing out more than 50,000 brand new toys to needy tots Sunday morning in L.A.'s Skid Row district. Staff at the Fred Jordan Mission say they expect more than 10,000 kids and parents to attend their 64th annual Family Christmas Celebration and toy giveaway.

Food baskets are also being handed out. Willie Jordan, the widow of the mission's founder, is scheduled to read Christmas stories to the crowd. Her late husband founded the center in 1944 as a shelter for alcoholics. The mission has also served homeless families for decades.
