Los Angeles County assistant fire chief Glynn Johnson's lawyer Monday said his client was acting in self-defense when he allegedly beat a Riverside County neighbor's puppy so badly that it had to be euthanized.
Attorney John E. Sweeney says the accusations against Johnson have been blown out of proportion by the media and protesters who have been rallying against him.
Johnson was expected to be arraigned on an animal cruelty charge Jan. 13 in Riverside County Superior Court.
