Karen Bass' Daughter, Son-In-Law Die In Car Crash

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― The daughter and son-in-law of Democratic Assemblywoman Karen Bass were killed over the weekend in a car accident near Los Angeles International Airport.

A Bass spokeswoman says Emilia and Michael Wright were traveling on the San Diego Freeway early Sunday when their sedan struck a concrete bridge support beam and burst into flames.

The 23-year-olds were both students at Loyola Marymount University and were married earlier this year.

Bass represents the 47th Assembly district comprising Culver City and several southern sections of Los Angeles. She's up for re-election this year.

Emilia Wright was her only child.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident's cause.
