Police say a Vista man who allegedly grabbed a police dog and jumped off the San Diego-Coronado Bridge following a police pursuit is under arrest.
Authorities say 27-year-old Cory Byron is hospitalized in serious condition at UCSD Medical Center with a collapsed lung.
The dog, named Stryker, did not survive the 200-foot plunge Monday evening into San Diego Bay.
A California Highway Patrol dispatcher says Byron will be charged with causing the dog's death, driving under the influence and evading police.
Oceanside police Lieutenant Fred Armijo says the dog, a six-and-a-half year old Belgian Malinois, had been with the police department for more than five years as a partner of Officer Kedrick Sadler.
Armijo says funeral arrangements for the dog are pending.
