Already-Jailed Man Charged With OC Rape From 1990
ORANGE, Calif. (AP) ―
Authorities say a man in jail for a probation violation has been charged with kidnapping an Orange County woman on Christmas Eve, sexually assaulting her many times and threatening to kill her in 1990.
Police say DNA taken from the rape scene matched a sample taken from 39-year-old Joseph Hyungmin Son when he was arrested for
vandalism earlier this year.
Police are still seeking a second suspect.
Son has been charged with five felony counts of rape and a dozen other felonies.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.
District Attorney Tony Rackauckas says the arrest was the result of Proposition 69, which requires felons and suspects of some crimes to submit DNA samples."
Rackauckas says "I hope that we can capture the second suspect soon."
