Two men have been convicted for a second time of first-degree murder and conspiracy for killing a South Gate man whose body was found in a culvert behind a school.
The jury's verdict against Joe Nino and Miguel Torres was reached Friday and unsealed Monday in Superior Court in Torrance.
Nino and Torres were initially convicted of killing Juan Vasquez in March 2003, but an appeals panel overturned the verdict in July 2007. The three judges ruled that a prosecutor improperly eliminated women and minorities from the jury.
Nino faces life in prison without the possibility of parole plus 25 years, while Torres faces 26 years to life behind bars when they are sentenced June 30.
