'Girls Gone Wild' Creator To Remain In Reno Jail

RENO, Nev. (AP) ― "Girls Gone Wild" creator Joseph Francis, granted bail in a federal tax evasion case in Nevada, will remain jailed in Reno to avoid being sent back to Florida after a judge there refused to set bail in a state criminal case.

His defense lawyer David Houston says Francis had hoped to post $1.5 million bail Tuesday.

But in light of the Florida ruling, his lawyers decided he should sit tight behind bars in northern Nevada.

The 34-year-old Francis was taken into federal custody May 14th in Florida after serving a criminal contempt sentence in a separate civil matter.

He arrived in Reno on Monday, and appeared during a hastily scheduled hearing later in the day and pleaded not guilty to tax evasion.

Besides the cash bail, a federal magistrate imposed other restrictions on his release, including surrendering his passport and limited travel.

Francis is charged in the Florida criminal case with sexual exploitation of minors related to the filming of underage girls
during spring break in 2003.

Francis has made millions from videos of young women exposing their breasts and being shown in other sexually provocative situations.
