Robbers shot and critically wounded a jeweler Thursday night in the driveway of his Riverside home.
The victim, a man, was shot and robbed as he got out of his car in front of his home in Riverside.
"I'm not sure if the victim resisted, but the suspects shot him at least four times, he's got at least four gunshot wounds," Riverside police Sgt. Duane Beckman said.
A witness said he heard four to six gunshots ring out and then saw a car speed away. The suspects got away with a few bags of gold.
"We ended up finding that car, which was a stolen car down the street, with some of the jewelry that was dropped," Beckman said.
Police found blood in the abandoned getaway car, leading them to believe that the victim may have had a gun of his own and shot his attackers.
Investigators also believe that the assailants followed the victim home, knowing that he owned two local jewelry stores.
The victim was in critical condition Thursday night.
Police have recovered the gun used by the robbers, and also found some bloody pants belonging to one of the assailants.
