Worn-Out Lugs Blamed For JetBlue Emergency Landing

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― A federal report says worn-out landing gear lugs forced a JetBlue airliner to make an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport three years ago.

The National Transportation Safety Board issued a report recently about the September 2005 flight from Burbank's airport to New York. The report says two out of four anti-rotation lugs on the nose landing gear fractured and separated.

The nose gear twisted on takeoff, and the pilot decided to land at LAX.

The Airbus A320 landed safely with nearly 200 passengers and crew onboard.

The NTSB also faulted the design of the plane's brake steering control unit. Airbus has since upgraded that system.
