UCLA Assistant Police Chief Arrested For DUI

CAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) ― UCLA's assistant police chief was arrested and booked for investigation of drunken driving after crashing his sport utility vehicle into a tree in Camarillo.

Jeff Young, a former Oxnard police lieutenant and the first police chief at California State University, Channel Islands, was driving north on Carmen Drive when the crash occurred Saturday afternoon. The Camarillo resident was alone in the SUV.

Young was taken to a hospital after the crash. Ventura County sheriff's Capt. Ross Bonfiglio says Young was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol and was released.

The extent of his injuries wasn't known. UCLA police spokeswoman Nancy Greenstein says Young, who is the department's second in command, went to work for UCLA about two years ago. She says the department is aware of the arrest, but there is no other comment.
