Facing Eviction, Irvine Man Ends Up Dead

IRVINE, Calif. (CBS) ― An Irvine man was found dead of a gunshot wound in his apartment Thursday an Orange County sheriff's deputy tried to serve an eviction notice.

The deputy arrived at the Northwood Place Apartments unit in the 400 block of Hayes Street about 1 p.m., Irvine police Lt. Henry Boggs said. The resident answered the door and asked the deputy to wait and went back inside the unit.

When the deputy heard a gunshot, he backed off and alerted Irvine police, which sent in SWAT to the scene, Boggs said.

The SWAT officers stormed the apartment about 4:25 p.m. after unsuccessfully trying to contact the man and found him dead, Boggs said.

The man's name was not immediately released.
