According to church officials, the mass is aimed at helping people hurt or frightened by the violence involving demonstrators and police that took place near the end of a rally in support of immigration reform.

Cardinal Roger Mahony will officiate at the mass, which will start at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will speak briefly at the end.
A special mass of consolation and healing for people affected by the MacArthur Park incident on May 1 is to be celebrated at Los Angeles Roman Catholic Cathedral Sunday morning.
