Healing Mass Held After MacArthur Park Violence

Cardinal Roger Mahony To Officiate The Mass, Mayor Villaraigosa Scheduled To Speak Briefly

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― A special mass of consolation and healing for people affected by the MacArthur Park incident on May 1 is to be celebrated at Los Angeles Roman Catholic Cathedral Sunday morning.

Cardinal Roger Mahony will officiate at the mass, which will start at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will speak briefly at the end.

According to church officials, the mass is aimed at helping people hurt or frightened by the violence involving demonstrators and police that took place near the end of a rally in support of immigration reform.

Representatives of other religious communities in Los Angeles will also attend the mass.
