Employees May Be Disciplined For Joining Boycott
LOS ANGELES (AP) ―
County employees could face disciplinary action for skipping work to participate in a May First nationwide protest over proposed immigration reforms without their bosses' permission.
County officials sent memos to human resources administrators urging them to make sure employees understand that they could be suspended or have their pay docked if they don't show up for work.
The memo says officials "respect employees' free speech rights" but stresses, "it is important that we be able to maintain public services."
County employee relations chief Jim Adams says vacation time could be granted to employees who want to participate, as long as the absences don't disrupt public services.
