A man who submitted a phony driver's license to take an insurance licensing exam was sentenced to 53 days of time served, Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner announced Wednesday.
Byron Andres Prado, 21, of Northridge, was convicted Nov. 2 of misdemeanor identity theft and sentenced to time served, according to the Department of Insurance.
Investigators reportedly found that Prado had earlier been caught with a fake Social Security card and falsified documents about his right to work in the United States.
"Falsifying documents and trying to obtain an insurance license is a criminal matter and could have placed the public at great risk," Poizner said.
Prado was taking a test to become an insurance agent at a downtown testing center when a proctor noticed the fake I.D. and notified authorities.
