Police Kill Knife-Wielding Suspect In Hollywood
LOS ANGELES (CBS) ―
A knife-wielding stabbing suspect who advanced on officers and paramedics was fatally shot by two Los Angeles police officers in Hollywood early Tuesday, police said.
No officers were hurt in the confrontation, which happened about 1:35 a.m. at a home in the 1400 block of Martel Avenue, near Sunset Boulevard.
Officers met a man at the home with multiple stab wounds in his back. He said he had been stabbed by his roommate, Mark Gregg, 25.
As paramedics treated the man outside the home, Gregg came out with a butcher knife and advanced on the officers and paramedics.
The Hollywood-area officers, Paul Razo, 30, and Minerva Mota, 29, told Gregg to put down his knife several times.
Gregg kept raising the knife, so the officers, fearing for their safety, fired at him, police said.
Gregg was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he died a short time later. The stabbing victim was also treated and released from the same hospital.
The shooting is being investigated by the LAPD's Force Investigation Division under department policy covering all officer-involved shootings.
Razo has been with the department for eight years, Mota for five.
