Hollywood Nightclub, 3 Businesses Go Up In Flames

HOLLYWOOD Fire tore through a building at the famed corner of Hollywood and Vine this morning, gutting the hip Basque Restaurant & Nightclub where Lindsay Lohan celebrated her 21st birthday and Kanye West partied last week.

Firefighters say the one-story club near the Pantages Theater and Capitol Records building in Los Angeles was not open when the fire started and no injuries have been reported.

Battalion Chief Mario Rueda said the fire was knocked down at 7:56 a.m.

Four businesses were damaged or destroyed -- the nightclub, a tattoo parlor, a beauty supply company and a vacant shoe store.

The Basque, built in the 1920s or '30s, has been a Howard Johnson's restaurant, a nightclub called Deep, a music studio and other businesses through the years.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
