3-Year-Old Boy Critical, Hit-And-Run Driver Wanted

SANTA ANA, Calif. (CBS) ― Police need the public's help in finding the driver of a car who struck a 3-year-old boy, who is now unconscious and in critical condition.

The boy was in the front yard of his family's home in the 1500 block of West 11th Street about 1 p.m. Monday when he saw something across the street that caught his eye, said Santa Ana police Cpl. Jose Gonzalez.

"The boy took off and darted into the street," Gonzalez said.

A pickup truck with a camper shell, or possibly an SUV, was headed east on 11th Street when it struck the child, he said.

The motorist kept going and was last seen heading north on Pacific Avenue.

The boy was unconscious when taken to a hospital, where he was in critical condition, Gonzalez said.
