Dangerous Chemical Spill Closes NoHo Intersection

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBS) ― A small cargo truck carrying containers of liquid oxygen overturned Sunday and hazardous materials personnel were called to manage reported leaks, officials said. The only injuries were minor and related to the traffic crash and the situation has been stabilized.

The intersection of Burbank and Laurel Canyon boulevards was shut down in all directions and a 500 foot radius of safety was established around the incident at 12126 Burbank Boulevard at about 12:25 p.m., according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department. No formal evacuations were necessary.

Three people suffered minor injuries but the circumstances, including whether other vehicles were involved, was not yet known, Humphrey said.

The truck was originally estimated to include about 30 cylinders of liquid oxygen, but Humphrey said an exact count was not yet available.

The intersection remained closed for debris clean-up.
