Mudslide Prompts Evacuation Near Griffith Park

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― A voluntary evacuation is in effect at the Oakwood Toluca Hills apartment complex northwest of downtown Los Angeles because of flooding and a small mudslide.

L.A. city fire spokeswoman d'Lisa Davies says a catch basin behind the complex began to overflow late Friday, as a storm continued to pound Southern California.

Mud and debris was flowing across Forest Lawn Drive -- which has been closed to traffic -- toward the buildings.

A hillside behind the complex was the site of a brush fire in March. No structures were burned in that blaze, but the fire damage made the hillside susceptible to mudslides.

The Oakwood housing complex is a popular residence for actors and other entertainment professionals.
